BECOME AN ARIZONA LIFE VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are critical members of our team. Volunteering with us may just be one of your most fulfilling experiences.

Whether you wish to visit patients, share a special talent, or support a program that interests you, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities to choose from.

WAYS TO VOLUNTEER

PATIENT CARE

Patient care volunteers can serve in private homes or at extended-care facilities.

Patient-focused volunteering may include conversing with, reading to, playing cards with, running errands, or assisting with email, letters, or memoirs.

ADMINISTRATIVE

Administrative volunteers can provide office support at one of our offices.

Office-related volunteering may include answering phones, helping with correspondence, or surveying hospice families about quality of care.

TRAINING

We offer specialized training to build skills in cross-cultural end-of-life care.

Many volunteers say what they learn in hospice enriches their personal and professional lives.

Skills you'll develop include:

  • Communication: Actively listening for conversational cues and helping people to find solutions that fit their own values and beliefs

  • Understanding Grief: Recognizing and honoring the various ways to cope with loss

  • Supporting Caregivers: Being fully present and helpful to people closest to the patient

  • Safety: Protecting patients and caregivers from accidents and infections

  • Spirituality: Supporting patients and families who are coping with profound questions about living and dying

  • Confidentiality: Safeguarding patient and family privacy

  • Self-Care: Setting boundaries and relieving emotional stress
